Annual Report Fedasil 2009

(01/06/2010) Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (Fedasil) published its annual report 2009. 2009 was a difficult year, marked on the one hand by a considerable increase in asylum applications, on the other hand by a considerable growth of the reception capacity.

About this report:

In spite of efforts made by both the Federal government and the different reception partners, the saturation of the reception network, that started in 2008, has continued and even worsened throughout 2009. Due to the lack of capacity, Fedasil was unable to offer a place to all the persons who are normally entitled to reception.

Today, while we are waiting for the formation of a new federal government, Fedasil emphasizes the need for measures that will both reduce the number of asylum seekers and enlarge the reception capacity. Therefore Fedasil continues to plead for a global asylum policy, which coordinates and streamlines the actions of all the stakeholders.

This annual report in English is a condensed version. The full version is available in French and in Dutch.
