Fedasil increased its reception capacity and created 3,388 new reception places in 2023

Given the strong pressure on the Belgian reception system, Fedasil created more than 3.000 places in 2023. Despite these efforts, Fedasil ran out of places to accommodate all applicants for international protection last year.

In a press release published today, Fedasil stressed that despite several obstacles, it was able to create 3.388 new reception places last year. End of 2023, the network had reached 35.651 reception places.

However, Fedasil ran out of places to accommodate all applicants for international protection last year. Due to the lack of available places, 8.816 persons could not integrate the reception network on the day of their registration in 2023. These persons (isolated men) were invited to sign up on a waiting list and were received subsequently depending on the places available. End of 2023, approximately 3.000 applicants were registered on the waiting list. Several of them are temporarily accommodated in the network for homeless people in Brussels.
