EU Anti-trafficking day: a call for co-operation

Today, 18 October 2013, three international anti-trafficking expert mechanisms called for a global response to fight the transnational scourge of trafficking in persons.

On the occasion of the EU Anti-trafficking day, the human rights experts from the United Nations, the Council of Europe (GRETA) and the Organisation for Co-operaton and Security in Europe (OSCE)  raised their voice for more co-operation on all levels, to adequately address the worldwide problem of human trafficking.

Since trafficking in human beings involves serious and grave human rights violations, they stressed the need for international co-operation, with a human rights based-approach, where the protection, assistance, re-integration and provision of remedies towards victims is the cental solicitude. At the prevention side, they stress that special efforts should be done on all levels to duly prosecute and punish traffickers.
