A new reception centre managed by Fedasil opens in Ghent

A new reception centre that can accommodate a maximum of 135 applicants for international protection has opened in Ghent. This is the second reception centre managed by Fedasil in the city. Since 2020, the Agency has been organizing the reception of 250 people on a pontoon in the port of Ghent.

Today, the first 16 applicants for international protection arrived at the new reception centre in Ghent. They were all temporarily housed in youth holiday centres. The other residents will gradually arrive over the coming weeks as the new reception centre can accommodate up to 135 people. It is located on the site of a former rest home (Seniotel), in the southern district of Ghent.

Fedasil is working on opening new centres and expanding existing centres to alleviate the shortage of reception places. At the end of 2023, Fedasil, for example, opened two new centres in Braine-le-Comte and Grimbergen, as well as temporary reception solutions through holiday centres for young people.
