The CGRS will resume the processing of Sudanese applications for international protection

The Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons (CGRS) announced today that it would resume the processing of Sudanese cases from Darfur, Kordofan, Blue Nile and Khartoum as of 26 February 2024.

In April 2023, an internal conflict broke out in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) led by the chairman of the Transitional Council, General Al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by General Hemedti. Following the outbreak of this violent internal conflict, the CGRS suspended the processing of all Sudanese cases.

In a press release published today, the CGRS announced that it had gathered sufficient up-to-date and objective information to make a correct assessment of cases and that it would unblock the suspended cases. As of 26 February 2024, the CGRS will resume processing Sudanese cases from Darfur, Kordofan, Blue Nile and Khartoum.
