4.489 persons obtained Belgian nationality in November 2023

According to Statbel, the Belgian statistical office, 4.489 persons obtained Belgian nationality in November 2023. The main countries of origin of people who acquired Belgian nationality in November are Morocco, Syria, Romania, Afghanistan and Turkey.

To put these numbers into perspective, in 2022, 48,482 inhabitants obtained Belgian nationality and 39 inhabitants lost it, which represents a total of 48,521 nationality changes. The top five nationalities who obtained Belgian nationality in 2022 include Moroccans (4,842), Syrians (3,615), Romanians (2,791), Iraqi (2,001), and Afghans (1,979).

The figures related to November 2023 come from the provisional monthly results of the statistics on changes of nationality calculated on the basis of Demobel, Statbel’s demographic database.

Demobel contains an overview of the structure of the population (numbers, gender, age, nationalities) and of the movement of the population (births, deaths, migration, changes of nationality).
