"The Smart Borders Package" aims to improve the management of Schengen Member States’ external borders, fight against irregular migration and provide information on overstayers, as well as facilitate border crossings for pre-vetted frequent third country national travellers.

The aim of the public consultation is to collect views and opinions to underpin the on-going impact assessment of the Package and the policy preparation of the revised proposal that will be tabled by the Commission. Through the consultation, the Commission also wishes to gather new ideas and knowledge and to test existing ideas and analysis.

The consultation invites all citizens (EU nationals and non-EU nationals) and organisations to contribute. Contributions are sought from persons, Member States, EU institutions, local, regional and national authorities, international organisations, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, academic institutions, non-EU countries, social partners and civil society.

The consultation is open until 29 October 2015.
